This index is based on a trimestral economic survey, answered by experts in 11 Latin American countries (Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico, Bolivia y Venezuela) and nine world known economies ( European Union, United States, Japan, Germany, France, United Kingdom, China, India and Russia). The index is the average of two qualitative indexes: i) Current situation index and ii) economic expectations index for the next months. The scale of measurement is from 1 to 9 points. For the current situation index, the results show that Colombia is in the sixth position in Latin America with a score of 7.3 points, above countries like Brazil and Mexico, but below Uruguay, Chile and Peru. 1. Current Situation Index (Colombia occupied the 6th place with 7.3 points) this represents the general economic situation of the country. ![]() Nevertheless, regarding the expectation index in upcoming months, Colombia occupied the first place in the ranking, standing out from the other Latin American countries. This perception about the economic future is the result of different policies and initiatives to create a sustainable macroeconomic environment and create trust among investors and international experts. When the current situation index and the economic expectations index are over five points, the economy of that country is in a boom, which is the situation for Colombia. 2. Economic Expectations Index (Colombia has the first place with a 7,5 points) this represents the economic situation of the country for the next six months. ![]() Source: Invest in Bogota (mm/dd/yyyy: 09/01/2011) Read the reasons why you should invest in Bogota, Colombia |
