Carlos Slim Ventures into the Colombian Oil & Gas Industry Invest in Bogota mm/dd/aaaa: 02/28/2011 The press announced this week that Mexican Carlos Slim, considered the wealthiest businessman in the world, entered the Colombian oil and gas industry with Tabasco Oil Conpany, a firm in which Slim participates as a shareholder with 70% of its capital, and that received support from Invest in Bogota during its establishment in Colombia. According to a press release sent to the Mexican stock Exchange, the Carso Group, an industrial and commercial conglomerate owned by Slim, agreed to participate with Tabasco Oil Company, property of the Mexican Geoprocesados. The press release stated that the investment “marks the entrance of the Carso Group into a new business sector in Latin America". Tabasco Oil Company is a firm dedicated to the exploration, production, explotation and commercialization of hydrocarbons in Latin America. Although it is still in its exploration phase, it has a concession to explore and produce hydrocarbons in Colombia.
