Bogota, a global city
• Bogota has the biggest bicycle path during weekends which was created 35 years ago and in which over a million people get together. 50 cities have copied the same model.
• Transmilenio is a massive transportation system that has served as a benchmark and has been copied in 57 cities, including Mexico City, Johannesburg, Jakarta and Guangzhou.
• Bogota is ranked 4th over 46 cities in Latin America in broadband coverage, placed above cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Lima.
• Bogota has public services coverage of over 100% (education, health, water, etc.)
• The homicide rate per every 100.000 habitants has decreased from 34.3 in 2001 to 19.3 in 2011. The city is securer than Panama City, Caracas, Rio and New Orleans.
• According to The Economist, Bogota is above the average in the Latin American ranking in ecologic procedures.
• The city has more than 5,000 public parks, including the Simon Bolivar which has an area of 113 acres.
• 98% of Bogota’s population is alphabetized, and the poverty rate has decreased 40% since 2000.
